Water is the lifeblood of
every civilization. It sustains our cities and rural communities,
our farms and ranches, our businesses and industries and our natural
environment.
Water shortages are not just a problem in third world countries.
Consider, for example, that the population of Texas is expected to
more than double between the years of 2000 and 2060 to approximately 46
million people. By 2060 water demand in Texas is forecasted to
increase by 27 percent which is equivalent to 21.6 million acre feet
of water usage. Existing
water supplies are projected to provide about 14.6 million acre-feet
in 2060. Texas is going to need an additional 7 million acre-feet of
water by 2060!
However, water resources can be unpredictable, especially in long
droughts - and there is always a threat of a prolonged drought. In
October of 2007, Atlanta was in the midst of a drought that was so
severe that the city had only a few weeks of drinking water left.
Officials in Texas say that the state must take dramatic measures to
curtail water usage and find new sources of water. Shortages during
a prolonged drought could cost businesses and workers approximately
$9.1 billion per year by 2010, and $98.4 billion per year by 2060.
Brac Systems has developed
an eco-friendly system that recycles the greywater from your shower,
bath and laundry to use for flushing commodes. The greywater is
filtered, chlorinated and piped to the commodes in your home. This
system can reduce your household water consumption by up to one
third saving precious resources and lowering your monthly water
bill.
Individual environmental responsibility can have a global impact. A
recent study sites “Unesco has predicted that by 2020 water
shortages will be a serious worldwide problem. “ Brac Systems
individual environmental approach will not only impact current water
resources, it will help conserve water for future generations. |
